It DOES Happen To Boys Too! (At Least In Countdown Twenty-Two)

Take a gander at this page from Countdown 22, then, if you will, go read Sleestak’s analysis posted here.

Do I agree? Um… Not completely, but yeah, I’d say this is more than a little gratuitous.

If it were just the upskirt shot, I might give it a pass, since it's rather attractive, but the expression in that last panel is just… Oh, come on!

(Meanwhile I continue to insist that I LIKE evil Mary’s look. I mean, as long as the leotard bottom is full coverage, it’s a perfectly workable outfit that says Evil Figure Skater to me, and I dig that. And so far, other than some questionable artwork, the tale of Black Mary Marvel really is playing less objectionably than say... The Malice storyline, even though that may only be because it's rather boring.)

Now the million-dollar question: Would a MALE character be treated like this?

Hold the chirping crickets, for a minute, and just take a look at how this artist depicts poor Jimmy Olsen:

We have liquid dripping down the face, slave collar…

Spank-me-now posing…

Crotch-shot!

Paging Doctor Freud!

Oh, for god’s sakes. This is fucking pervy.

Now, that was some exploitative shit … I think here we have a rare case of EQUAL OPPORTUNITY oversexualized bondage treatment of classic wholesome characters from the DC stable.

There’s all kinds of things fucked-up here, but it is, just this once, happening to the boys too… And frankly, I won’t say one character’s treatment is worse than the other’s.

Here’s one comic I’d just call “cheap exploitation” without accusing it of singling out the ladies. That, of course, is not praise.

Damn, there are issues in this issue.

Now, down! Down! All of those who might think I’m giving credence to the idea that men get it just as bad as women across the board. Of course they don’t. But yeah, it happens from time to time, like now, and yeah, it does twist my feminist knickers, thankyou very much. ;)

Come on, I like a little kink in my comics (I'm the gal with the Kink Of The Week feature, aren't I?), but this is ridiculous.

The Batverse Blog (The one with the aforementioned Kink Of The Week) is still at:

And Now: The Goddamned Superdictionary!

This woman is a lawyer. She is a woman with a respectable legal career. Frank Miller writes stories where the lawyer is picked up by the Joker and killed. Frank Miller writes stories where a legal professional goes off to have sex with a stranger with green hair and white skin and is killed by him.

If this woman were a whore and were killed, her death would be avenged, possibly by other whores. If this woman were a woman who had sex for cash, her death would be important to the story. But if she were a whore she also might have gotten away. If this woman were the type to trade sexual favors for money, it is very possible that she would have been deadly and wily enough to get away if she had to.

If this woman were a whore in a Frank Miller story, she would probably have known better than to go home with a scary man who has white skin and green hair in the first damn place. Women who have sex for money are very intelligent and streetwise in stories by Frank Miller. Whores know how to take care of themselves, or know men that will take care of them, unlike lawyers.

Frank Miller respects whores. He sees women who have sex for money as the epitome of strong womanhood. Not like lawyers.

Friend me if you want to!

IMPORTANT WARNING: Under no circumstances pick up the Batman: Harley Quinn one-shot, compare the utterly brilliant "I'm going to sleep with you and then kill you and I will always remember you" scenes from that comic to this dull-as-a-doornail serial-killer-fakebook take on the exact same subject matter, and...

Just don't do it. You might end up crying...

Related Warning: ABSOLUTELY DO NOT FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR BRAIN compare a guy who had to break a doctor's mind before she became his lover to a guy who can apparently walk into any bar on ladies' night and get himself some sane professional tail.

Call Me Naive, But I Think They're Laughing With Me...
You can click for the embiggening:

Is this scene, as at least one person would argue, a sign that feminist concerns are being dismissed?

Perhaps it is.

But I got the exact opposite impression. I see it as MOCKING the mad rush for the "important demographic." Mocking the very concept of sleazy, stupid statues. Mocking the defense of said statues as tasteful. Mocking the whole idea that it's somehow more desirable to see comic characters as Wank Fodder for adults instead of Action Figures for children.

For once, I feel like they're laughing WITH me. And I love that feeling.

Am I naive?

In other news, if New Avengers 36 sells well, I demand some credit go to the feminist praise.

I put a lot of effort into getting the hive vagina to blather on about it, and I wouldn't want anybody to go around giving the impression that you believe feminist's criticism SELLS THOSE COMICS, and feminists's praise is a non-issue. Especially those who wonder where the Good Cop approach is to be found. ;) What's that? New Avengers was already selling well? Hmmph.

I still have a Batverse Blog and you can still friend me if you wanna.

And Bat Bat still amuses me!

Hee hee! BatBat is following my cursor around... Ooooh, look at him go!

Just A Thought On Defending Gail (Who doesn't really NEED defending, does she?)
Yes, RMM is a troll among trolls, yes his attack on Gail was bizarre, and yes I completley understand why the TCJ Journalista guy seems almost desperate to TRY to see it as satire. (I TRIED thinking he was joking. I REALLY, REALLY TRIED. BUT I CAN'T DO IT ANYMORE, I JUST CAN'T!)

However, I was actually a little bit shocked by how many people were defending Gail Simone from trumped-up charges of misandry by pointing out that she's married to A MAN, AND SHE HAS...(Get This!) A SON! (Of course, as I would expect, I saw NO sign that Gail Simone had stooped anywhere near that level.)

Being the mother of a son, and/or the wife of a husband, is no more a GET OUT OF MISANDRY free card than having a mother, or daughter (or wife), is a get out of misogyny free card for Bendis, Quesada, or any other person. It's not helpful to point out her relationships when defending her work, and it doesn't get anybody anywhere.

That's the last bit of attention-food I'm going to give The Man Who Trolls His Own Blog for now.

Thankyou, Be Excellent To Each Other, And Party ON, Dudes!

this is a test...

Last page of a graphic novel I'm probably going to do a series on.

Warning:

This story promotes libertarian-conservative politics, animal rights, feminism, and the kewlness of superintelligent universe-hopping dolphins.

If that's not your cup of tea, stay away from this journal for a while because it's all I'm going to be talking about for maybe the next couple of weeks. ;)

Because This Adams Pic Of Tigra Made Me Think "Tigra Looks A Little Elfquest-ish There"...

Tony: Where, exactly, have YOU been?

Tigra: Yeah, here's the thing, Stark. I've washed my hands of the old universe. They don't like me there anymore. I got the message. I finally got it.

I'm getting back to my Jungle Girl roots by fighting Trolls and mutated Snake/Sabretooth monstrosities in a Stone Age setting - While being screwed every hour on the hour by this miniature stud who's way, way too impressed by magnetism.

Yeah, that's right. There's FREQUENT SEX, and it's all equal-opportunity-skin-showing around here, Tony. Hell, the other day we had an ORGY before we kicked some Troll ass and I swear to God, it wasn't THE LEAST BIT EXPLOITATIVE.

Don't call me, Starky. I'll call you. 'Kay.
